jl2012as I understand, by the definition of "witness", it could include nVersion, nSequence, scriptSig, and nLockTime. With a softfork, however, only the scriptSig may be segregated. That's not very optimal17:52

CubicEarthgmaxwell: bitcoin currently has an theoretical max of 7 tps.  With SegWit that increases to 10.5 tps.  This is a 50% increase under 'ideal conditions'.  SegWit can offer more than a 50% bump under typical conditions, but under those 'less than ideal' conditions, the 10.5 tps would take a hit as well.  If that is correct, I think its a helpful way to help people understand what SegWit does and doesn't do.22:02
