--- Log opened Sat Dec 14 00:00:08 2019 --- Day changed Sat Dec 14 2019 00:00 < nmz787> the chlorine just turns into gas and you inhale it 00:00 < nmz787> or combines with other stuff (the glycerine or whatever) and makes other weird sideproducts 00:00 < nmz787> ultrasonication is what they sell for normal humidifiers in the pharmacy for when you're sick 00:01 < nmz787> it just disperses the fluid in really tiny droplets in the air 00:01 < nmz787> then you can pipe in your volatilized nicotine into that 00:01 < nmz787> from totally separate chambers 00:01 < brabo> for most smokers part of the switch to vaping is the lack of combustion, and afaik combustion, if something does not burn completely, has these side-effects of not complely burned carbon/hydrogens? 00:01 < nmz787> if I was into nicotine, that's what I'd probably do anyway 00:02 < nmz787> there's a lot other stuff too, air is not just oxygen, and natural products and extracts are not just hydrocarbons 00:03 < nmz787> any metals or halogens from minerals or salts, etc 00:03 < brabo> i'm afraid my chemistry doesn't reach this far :) 00:04 < brabo> and your idea may have value, i could not tell. me personally, i'd be hesitant to try it out, as i really want to lower the unknowns i inhale 00:04 < nmz787> well that's the whole point 00:04 < brabo> maybe if others more courageous did it for 15 years i may be convinced to try myself 00:05 < nmz787> just inhale nicotine and some cloud of mist 00:05 < nmz787> but if you're battling against psychology, and not just the chemical addiction... that's something else 00:06 < nmz787> vaping pure nicotine would be the safest though, in terms of limiting your unknowns 00:06 < nmz787> it's one input. 00:06 < nmz787> (aside from air) 00:06 < brabo> yes, if it indeed ends up pure nic, yes, less unknowns 00:07 < brabo> but it indeed would not offer the other aspects of vaping that manage to check all the boxes for a recovering smoker to feel satisfied enough to not return to smoking.. 00:08 < brabo> the flavour is just added candy, the throat hit and cloud one exhales do check psychological boxes that are a fundamental part of the addiction 00:08 < brabo> which i btw never considered until i tried vaping 00:09 < brabo> and i personally only see one good reason to do any of these things: to try and quit smoking 00:10 < brabo> do you think that method could be made to include pg/vg vapor? 00:10 < nmz787> eh, but now you're onto getting some other unknown illness from the other new stuff 00:12 < brabo> well "new", vaping is around for a good 15 years. i've smoked for 24. if i keep smoking for another 1-2 decades, i have really big risks on really nasty things. so far no one got ill or died from ecig vaping. so those longer term unknowns? i take that risk 00:12 < nmz787> yeah don't see why not 00:12 < nmz787> but I am not really too qualified for any hard and fast advice here 00:12 < nmz787> I'm more into the equipment side, and trusting time/evolution 00:13 < brabo> worst case, in 20 years (after having stopped vaping too for over 15 years) i get ill. and then i spose it doesn't matter anymore due to what. i took the big known risks ages ago and undoubtedly did loads of damage due to that anyway 00:14 < brabo> and if i keep smoking. it won't end better than that 00:14 < brabo> and i do tell non smokers to forget about vaping regularly. just don't if you do not try to quit smoking. 00:15 < brabo> no way it can be healthy. 00:17 < brabo> compared to inhaling 7k known substances, of which plenty are damaging and some are very cancerinogenic (right word or..?) inhaling a couple that are not known so far to cause anything bad.. 00:17 -!- ebowden [~ebowden@unaffiliated/ebowden] has quit [Ping timeout: 246 seconds] 00:19 < brabo> but in all seriousness, the whole honey cut case did make me very conscious about if i want to produce any ecig liquid, i should go all the way to ensure there are no unknowns such as vit e acetate suddenly in the mix 00:20 < brabo> if you did not get the background of those ills/deaths in usa: https://www.leafly.com/news/health/toxic-vaping-vapi-evali-lung-injury-rise-and-fall-of-vitamin-e-oil-honey-cut 00:20 < brabo> to me that is a veritable horror story 00:21 < brabo> and no one in the supply chain, be it illegal, doesn't matter, in a fully legal supply chain in a regulated market, this can happen just as well i'm afraid 00:21 < brabo> and no one knew 00:22 < brabo> point #1 honey cut was not honest about what their product was, #2, no one in the supply chain bothered to check 00:24 < brabo> sadly public health institutions then decided to lie about the cause for months, trying to blame ecigs, sending more people to hospital and their coffin 00:24 < brabo> so maybe i am overly cautious. but i do not want to be part of such disaster, ever. 00:39 < nmz787> seems like you could have a lot of effect if you championed for and got instilled some regulation of the industry 00:40 < nmz787> I guess not being a wholly natural product extractive makes things a little more complicated vs the THC regulated markets 00:45 < brabo> well, in eu things are more regulated, but there stay point where honey cut scenarios can occur. vape liquids soon must put all ingredients on their labels. yet most flavours are actually sold as food flavours, which are not regulated as such. so, can still happen if some genius starts selling something that some food flavour producers incorporate in their products.. 00:47 < nmz787> yeah seems like the smartest thing would be for a smoker to switch to unflavored e-cig stuff, then get off vaping entirely 00:48 < nmz787> but, freedom to be curious and do what you want is valuable 00:48 < nmz787> as long as they are warned that "the chemistry might get crazy"... 00:49 < brabo> unflavoured stuff has as downside it does not check the box of: i taste something 00:49 < brabo> so psychologically it gets in the way of it being as succesful as it can be as nic replacement therapy 00:50 < brabo> and it it proven to be twice as effective as the next best thing in that regard 00:53 < nmz787> g2g, be well 00:54 < brabo> you too! and thanks for the info on gc/ms! 00:59 -!- LeoTal [~Adium@173.170.86.79.rev.sfr.net] has joined
