ParahSailini somewhat retract what i said about ncbi's sra format11:54
ParahSailinit seems to have some pretty significant compression11:54
ParahSailinsam-dump of an sra file yields bam files 50% bigger11:55
ParahSailinits still hideously computation and memory consuming to convert sra to X though11:55
ParahSailinif it takes you 10 days to download 3.5 TB, it takes you at least 4 days on 8 cores and raid11:56

Daekento further my cyborg-y-ness, i want flex sensor gloves that talk bluetooth as user interface devices.  really want a decent interface to google glass and the moverio, which doesn't exist at the moment.  anyone know of any?  i've been hunting high and low, but i'm not finding anything OTS.12:25

Daekenhmm, interesting12:56
Daekeni'm concerned about getting something like that and not being able to really use it one-handed though.  kinda sucks.12:57
kanzureare you missing a hand12:59
Daekenno, but i want to be able to use this one-handed, for use on the go.  two-handed keyboards are a pain when you're walking and whatnot.13:00
kanzurehave you seen the twiddler13:01
Daekenyeah, but it's wired.  that said, i could just hook up a usb-hid to bluetooth converter.  i dunno.13:02
kanzureyou could strap the zagg keyboard over your chest and type on your chest like a musical instrument13:03
Daekenhaha, i could, yeah13:03
kanzureothers would be able to see what you type, though13:03
Daekeni'm not too concerned about that13:03
Daekenprimary use case for this is responding to texts and looking things up quickly on google glass, primarily.13:04
kanzureif you had a bunch of accelerometers and gyros, i'd say just buy a glove or two and wire it up13:04
Daekeni'm honestly tempted to just pick up a peregrine glove and hack on bt support haha.13:05

nmz787_iso i am redirecting stdout and stderr to a textbox in my gui... then i use subprocess.popen to open a new process, and use popen to redirect the new process's stderr and stdout to a PIPE... then in my launcher I have a thread listening to that pipe, and also printing any messages to the same text box (in the launcher)... at some point the new process re-redirects it's stdout and stderr to a textbox it has18:08
nmz787_inow my problem is, if the second process crashes, I don't know what the errors are, because they were heading to itself, which has crashed so are lost18:09
nmz787_iI'm thinking of just logging stdout and stderr to a file18:09
nmz787_iin addition to the textbox18:10
kanzuresounds like a situation where you could benefit from a named pipe18:10
nmz787_ihmm18:10
nmz787_iso i never redirect to a textbox, but always a named pipe?18:10
nmz787_iso it the crashing textbox doesn't pick up the lines, the other can18:10

kanzure"I'd really like to see a cite for this claim. I looked and could find zero reference to a patent holder's responsibility to enforce in order to maintain a patent's validity. AFAIK a patent holder is free to enforce their patent as they see fit, just as a copyright holder can. Otherwise there could be no such thing as a purely defensive patent, no?"21:34
kanzurei'm pretty sure the "defensive patent" is just marketing lingo, it's still a regular patent21:34
||0_-_0||why would a defensive patent be any different than a regular patent with the USPTO?21:36
