kanzure02:03 <gmaxwell> I'm surprised no crazy person has tried turning back on vitamin C synthesis. it's a single SNP thats missing in the internal synthesis....02:04

kanzurextalmath: re: controlled substances, you may also be interested in reading the "commerce control list".02:28
xtalmathyeah I read NRC faq page, its controlled up to a certain amount. theres a general license, but I did not look long enough to find out if it costs money to apply for a license and if so, how much it would cost...02:29
xtalmathit's also unclear to what extent it can be sold internally without crossing borders. I mean the water facility is providing us all with deuterium dilution.02:30
xtalmathso from what purity grade on would one need to apply for a license...02:30
xtalmathI am considering to compare the prices of D2O of different suppliers, and to calculate how much it would cost to manufacture, since at high purity levels these things seem to cost $1k per kg or L02:32
xtalmathsounds lucrative02:32
xtalmathI would just need to rent a house near a lake or smth02:33
xtalmathor along a river, theres lots of riverside here in Ghent02:33
xtalmathalso, need to check what the european regulations are, since NCR was just the first search result I took02:34
xtalmathI expect it to be similar02:34
kanzureperhaps aliexpress will sell you deuterium.02:36
xtalmath" A general license is issued to any person to export to any country not  listed in § 110.28 or § 110.29 deuterium in individual shipments of 10  kilograms or less (50 kilograms of heavy water). No person may export  more than 200 kilograms (1,000 kilograms of heavy water) per calendar  year to any one country."02:36
xtalmathI dont search deuterium, I want to make it02:36
xtalmathand sell it02:36
kanzurejrayhawk: approximate benefit of humanoid vitamin c synthesis?02:37
xtalmathso for every country, at current price of $1000 that means one could earn on the order of a million per year on each country that imports from you02:37
xtalmathminus expenses for generating it of course, but I dont see a fundamental limit on cost yet02:38
jrayhawkwould depend on what the metabolic costs of production are02:38
kanzureapparently it's a single snp02:38
kanzureto reactivate02:38
jrayhawkthe vitamin c doesn't appear out of nowhere02:38
xtalmathjrayhawk: apparently deuterium ice sinks02:38
jrayhawknoted!02:39
kanzuresure, might be overexpressed these days for all i know02:39
kanzurehrm.02:39
jrayhawkthere's also a lot of pathways reliant on intermittant oxidative stress02:39
jrayhawkwhich we only vaguely understand02:39
xtalmathso you just electrolyse the water into hydrogen and oxygen, burn it / fuel cell it, condense it, and take bottom ice again02:40
jrayhawke.g. there's studies on vitamin C blunting hypertrophy02:41
xtalmathperhaps condensation is enough, which can happen at room temperature in vacuum02:41
jrayhawkthere are probably quite a lot of NRF2 signals that you could also disrupt02:42
jrayhawkNRF2-initiating signals02:42
xtalmathIm probably underestimating the cost of manufacturing though02:44

xtalmathok if I can get all D from hydrogen from water and recombine it with oxygen, I need about 7133 L of original water (according to local delta 2H) per resulting D2O. at 4 euro's per cubic meter (including VAT) that is 28.5 euros. so well below 1000. next I should calculate energy cost. energy cost probably goes up drastically if I try to get the last few D's from mostly H. so water consumption could get higher if I dont find a very03:05
xtalmathaiming at 1000 L per year, thats 3 L per day03:06
xtalmathman why did I not investigate this earlier03:06
xtalmathapparently nuclear industry is very silent on how cheap deuterium production really is nowadays: https://www.princeton.edu/~ramana/heavy-subsidies-in-heavy-water-epw.pdf03:07
xtalmathpretending its very expensive, selling it to government at inflated prices, without actually ever mentioning real costs03:07

xtalmathits a bit vague, on why the prices are kept high, is it just greed, or is it infosec? if very low prices appeared in the west, military of other nations might realize there is a cheap method of producing D2O... prompting a quest...03:11
xtalmathinfosec likes to hide behind "understandable" greed though.03:12

xtalmathI wonder what other substances (not just elements) have high abundance / price (not just as elements in earths crust, but more generally like isotopes, chemicals,... in specific carriers) yet high value (if only extraction was not expensive). things like Aluminum, or deuterium. I wonder which one has the highest "abundance"*(purified price)/(dilute price) ratio.07:22
xtalmathanyone know where I can find such lists? I can find silly top 15 expensive chemicals lists online, but I dont want to maximize purified price, but the ratio...07:24
xtalmathwill the end result of widespread realization that expensive D is just in your tap water result in increased water prices, so that all water facilities basically extract deuterium before supplying to consumers? that would not make sense, since rain will still fall, and there will always be lakes and seas07:27
xtalmathman this is kind of a real problem07:28
xtalmathbut then again, is it? I think they should release control on D and focus on the fissionables07:29
xtalmathno actually Im just interested in pure price/dilute price, scrap abundance07:31
xtalmathheh, its like the most lucrative thing to do is sorting (if you find a way to do it), cleaning up07:32

ryankarasoni recently went to lecture by Deep Space Industries. a company which wants to start mining space. (goal 1 is to mine water, for use in space); however, it got me thinking that once we expand our horizons beyond Earth.. the abundance of particular chemicals changes vastly.09:07
kanzuredepends on the delivery schedule and whether the materials are cached before release09:08
