nmz787maaku: idk, I have a farmer friend, his 5 year old grew up on the farm (they homeschool their kids), and she works quite a lot (within what she can physically do, and within safety limits)11:13
streetymaybe you should try a rental first - perhaps you can pitch it as babysitting11:16
nmz787nah, I don't feel comfortable establishing my own thought patterns in someone elses child... possibly destroying patterns they established11:18
nmz787I'd be pissed if i had a kid I was training to be a certain way, and then some jerk came along disrupting things11:19
nmz787now being that I am friends with this particular 5 year old... maybe our thought pattern establishment would be similar enough that I wouldn't be like a wrecking ball11:20
streetyindeed, assuming this friendship is reciprocal there is probably some overlap already11:20
nmz787(friends with this particular 5-year old's parents)11:21
streetyyes, overlap of an overlap11:21
streetywhat tasks are you hoping to delegate?11:22
nmz787at the moment I am still waking up, so not too clear... but in general they'd be good at soldering things... I'd teach them basic biohacking sterile technique, how to use a schematics and layout CAD tool for circuit boards... even if they didn't understand circuitry, they could get good with the tool to layout traces (it is essentially drawing lines with minimal crossings)11:24
nmz787I showed this 5 year old how to solder some basic stuff once or twice a year and a half ago... and she was good at it then, so I see no reason a small person couldn't learn to be decent enough technique-wise in a month or two11:25
-!- andreh [~andreh@177.18.24.140.dynamic.adsl.gvt.net.br] has quit [Remote host closed the connection]11:27
streetyat that level I'm not sure thought patterns would be radically altered. That seems like something that becomes more important for creativity and problem solving.11:30
nmz787yeah, but then I would have to rent their kid a lot, to get them well trained, and at that point I think the parents would be missing their kid11:31
streetycall it babysitting and charge them instead of paying them11:33
nmz787idk, I don't think they've ever hired a babysitter before11:34
nmz787they carry their infants on their back in a cloth sling/carrier when they're on the farm (as long as he isn't on a tractor or something loud/vibraty)11:35
nmz787(or unless the infant wants to walk around and/or play with their bigger sister)11:35
streetythat might not work then.11:36
kanzuredoes adoption still work for slave labor?12:01

nmz787who knows the genetic proclivities of adopted children though, unless genetic testing for candidates isn't seen as rude12:26
nmz787"which of these orphans might be the best at math, in the future?"12:27
nmz787"research has shown that unmet or unrealistic expectations often play a role when adoptions fall apart"12:30

nmz787"But the kids aren’t really working, right? Sorta. If a business benefits from your labor, then you’re working, even if you’re not paid, says Gary Pechie of the Department of Labor. In media reports, the Nuzzos admitted they benefited: Their children greet customers, bus tables and help out generally."12:43
nmz787I have a feeling DIY science might not count then, if you aren't profitting (hey the kid isn't working on soldering that PCB, they're learning how to do a hobby)12:44
nmz787""" “Kids clearing the table at home is one thing,” Schwartz says. “At a restaurant, it’s another.   """12:46
nmz787well that clears it up, @home makes everything a-OK12:46

streetywhat happens if you do eventually develop a product for sale or otherwise benefit?12:52
TMAnmz787: I think it is still not reliably predictable what kind of child you get if you start producing your own. selecting from the stock of already existing might be cheaper and safer option just now.12:58
