kanzurehmm there are rfid chips which could be contained in a compartment with a diameter of 150 microns09:42
kanzure"The most widely used emulsion formation [for in vitro compartmentalization techniques] gives droplets with a mean diameter of 2-3μm, and an average volume of ~5 femtoliters, or 10^10 aqueous droplet per ml of emulsions.[5]"09:43
kanzurehttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/In_vitro_compartmentalization09:45
kanzurebasically i'm wondering about using free-floating microchips inside each droplet instead of using the surface of a giant semiconductor array device thing09:46
kanzure"The team in the Micro and Nanosystems Department at IMB-CNM (CSIC) began by fabricating different batches of polysilicon chips, a typical semiconductor material, and choosing the most suitable types with lateral dimensions of 1.5–3µm and with a thickness of 0.5 µm before implanting them inside living cells taken from Dictyostelium discoideum and human HeLa cells. Preliminary experiments incubating the HeLa cells with polysilicon ...09:48
kanzure... chips gave low yields of internalized intracellular chips (ICC) so they used lipofection (encapsulation of materials in a lipid vesicle called a liposome) to obtain higher rates of ICC-containing cells. After insertion, the researchers then monitored the cells to make sure they remained alive and healthy. They found that over 90% of the HeLa cell population remained viable seven days after lipofection."09:48

kanzure"Intracellular Silicon Chips in Living Cells" http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/smll.200901041/abstract09:49
kanzure"Silicon-based chips offer high flexibility and versatility as they are based on semiconductor and MEMS technology. They can be top-down fabricated with well-controlled shape and size. Silicon microchips can be internalized into eukaryotic cells (see image) without interfering with cell viability. Engineered intracellular chips with different biomolecules attached to the surface can be used as intracellular sensors."09:49
kanzurehere's one where a chip is inserted into a cell to measure internal pressure using optical reflection of the deflection of some membrane on the chip http://www.nature.com/nnano/journal/v8/n7/abs/nnano.2013.118.html09:51

nmz787chris_99: not off the top of my head... that LPC4370 with 80MSPS @ 12bits is the closest that comes to mind... and also some discussions in maybe ##openfpga about people using multiple ADCs interleaved, to double the sample rate of a given ADC. Also you might be able to get a fast-enough FPGA to do delta-sigma ADC, not sure about bandwidth and bits achievable for a given FPGA clock, etc...12:29
chris_99oh i found one that looks really good12:32
chris_99i'm looking at the fx312:32

chris_99the fx3 should give plenty of bandwidth12:33
chris_99it permits 100MHz GPIO12:33
nmz787chris_99: what do you want to do?12:42
chris_99planning on doing power analysis, where i want to do some quite long captures12:43
nmz787for 4x more money, you could just get a rigol ds1054 and save your output to USB, oh, wait, that only yields 8-bit12:43
chris_99along with also voltage glitching12:43
chris_99i've got a rigol12:43
chris_99the issue is memory depth12:43
nmz787really?12:43
nmz787with the 20 megapoints or whatever?12:43
nmz787have you done the hack?12:44
chris_99the memory isn't that deep on mine afaik, sec12:44
nmz78724 megapoints is the hacked/upgraded max12:44
nmz787(on the ds10X4 series)12:44
chris_99i didn't think hacking them alters the depth12:45
chris_99i thought it's just the sample rate12:45
chris_99i think it's only around 1M for mine, unless i'm mistaken, 1052e12:45
nmz787nah, you can double the memory from 12 to 2412:46
nmz787ah, you have the older scope12:46
nmz787yeah different beast12:46
chris_99ah12:46
nmz787it does 1 gigasample at 8 bits, up to 24 megasample depth12:46
nmz787USB data port for saving, ethernet12:46
chris_99nice12:46
chris_99but for less than £100, for those two boards, that'd be pretty handy i think, if i can figure out how to program it heh12:49

nmz787First a heatwave hit Siberia. Then came the anthrax.13:06
nmz787"Thirteen Yamal nomads were hospitalized, including four children, the Siberian Times reported. The bacteria took an even worse toll on wildlife, claiming some 1,500 reindeer since Sunday."13:07
kanzurenmz787: what do you think about the prospects of having a CMOS chip in a 3 micron diameter emulsion droplet, or having those emulsions on the surface of a large CMOS chip and interfacing electronically with the solutes inside of each aqeuous compartmnt?13:29

nmz787kanzure: nanobots, essentially... lots of people have talked about and they seem reasonably interesting. Depends on what you want to accomplish with those in-emulsion-microchips.16:40
nmz787like, have nanobots for each A, G, T, C, emulsion-droplet... then what? the nanobot captures a nucleotide, and then magnetically is pulled from the droplets or something, and then the nanobots interact to trade off nucleotides from one to another (the recipient would then I guess host a polymerization operation, or shuttle the cargo nucleotides to some polymerization emusion-droplet?)16:42
