Sorry for spamming here, but I'm hoping to get some comments on the BIP proposals for wallet policies: https://github.com/bitcoin/bips/pull/1389 01:48 < salvatoshi> I think it's the shortest path for adoption of miniscript-based wallet accounts in hardware and software wallets. Also please check the PoC of integration in HWI for more context: https://github.com/bitcoin-core/HWI/pull/647 02:04 < darosior> salvatoshi: have you pinged Stepan from Specter? He might be the most able to give feedback in the context of signing device + miniscript descriptors. Also i think Coldcard has descriptors even if they are reluctant to Miniscript? Might be worth asking from feedback there too. 02:05 < darosior> Also i was thinking that a less wasteful serializations of descriptors is useful in general, not only in the context of signing devices. Should it be only for reading a descriptor, but also especially for backing it up. 02:08 < darosior> So maybe some of salvatoshi's suggestions (for instance, not repeating keys) could even be integrated in the descriptor standard eventually? 02:17 < salvatoshi> I had a chat with Stepan and indeed I'll ping him again, thanks! 02:19 < salvatoshi> I think there is enough difference in scope to justify keeping the two concepts separate. Descriptors are more flexible/powerful, while limiting the supported features in wallet policies is by design. 02:20 < salvatoshi> (collections of) descriptor model arbitrary collections of sequences of scripts, while wallet policies represent what a typical software wallet considers an "account". If you generalize it further, the semantic equivalence breaks. 09:37 -!- sipa [~sipa@user/sipa] has quit [Quit: Bridge terminating on SIGTERM] 09:37 -!- ksedgwic [~ksedgwicm@2001:470:69fc:105::ce1] has quit [Quit: Bridge terminating on SIGTERM] 09:42 -!- ksedgwic [~ksedgwicm@2001:470:69fc:105::ce1] has joined ##miniscript 09:49 -!- sipa [~sipa@user/sipa] has joined ##miniscript 09:49 -!- mode/##miniscript [+o sipa] by ChanServ 10:08 <@sipa> darosior, others: I've been distracted with other things the past few weeks, I'll cycle back to miniscript stuff the next days somewhere. 10:09 < darosior> 👍 14:30 -!- appservicebot12 [~afilini-m@2001:bc8:1828:245::2] has quit [Ping timeout: 260 seconds] 14:43 -!- appservicebot12 [~afilini-m@2001:bc8:1828:245::2] has joined ##miniscript 21:57 -!- sandipndev123 [sandipndev@2600:3c00::f03c:92ff:fe8e:dce6] has joined ##miniscript 21:58 -!- notmandatory_ [~notmandat@shindig.notmandatory.org] has joined ##miniscript 22:05 -!- Netsplit *.net <-> *.split quits: sandipndev, notmandatory --- Log closed Thu Dec 01 00:00:32 2022
