Running into problems with ppcle and aarch64. I'm not sure we _should_ do ppcle64, as both crosstool-ng and centos7 had to very intensely patch their 2.17 glibc to make it work: 11:09 < dongcarl> https://github.com/crosstool-ng/crosstool-ng/tree/master/packages/glibc/2.17, https://git.centos.org/rpms/glibc/blob/c7/f/SOURCES 11:10 < dongcarl> I'm also testing 2.24 as a parallel possibility, that seems more doable, and it doesn't look like glibc added many more functions between 2.17 and 2.24 11:42 < sipa> perhaps we can build against 2.17 on platforms where it is easy, and bite the bullet and use 2.24 on the others? 11:59 < laanwj> bumping the glibc version for ppc and aarch64 sounds fine to me, i think sticking with old glibc is most important for x86_64 12:00 < laanwj> keep in mind that (relatively) new platforms aren't supported well by older glibc for obvious reasons 12:02 < sipa> exactly 12:03 < dongcarl> Agreed 12:03 < dongcarl> I'm gunna see if there's a specific patch to 2.17 that will fix aarch64, we'll likely use 2.19 or 2.24 for ppc64le (non-LE works fine on 2.17) 12:07 < laanwj> ack 15:19 -!- Netsplit *.net <-> *.split quits: hebasto, sdaftuar, kalle, jarolrod, jamesob, cfields, copumpkin, belcher, achow101, harding, (+26 more, use /NETSPLIT to show all of them) 15:25 -!- koolazer [~koo@212.47.237.37] has joined #bitcoin-core-builds 15:25 -!- Netsplit over, joins: real_or_random, michaelfolkson, robertspigler, windsok, greypw, belcher, willcl_ark, _0x0ff, kanzure, darosior (+24 more) 15:28 -!- robertspigler [~robertspi@2001:470:69fc:105::2d53] has quit [Ping timeout: 272 seconds] 16:14 < hebasto> building against glibc 2.24 does not introduce new symbols that are incompatible with old glibc 2.17, therefore, we could use 2.24 safely, no? 17:07 -!- belcher_ [~belcher@user/belcher] has joined #bitcoin-core-builds 17:11 -!- belcher [~belcher@user/belcher] has quit [Ping timeout: 246 seconds] 17:26 < fanquake> I would rather we move all arches in lockstep to a newer glibc. I'm not sure there's a huge need to remain at 2.17? 17:26 < fanquake> Although, might be too late to do that now, and could be something to revisit for 23.0 17:29 < sipa> if glibc 2.24 works for everything, and doesn't result in a compile-time dependency higher than 2.17... that seems perfect? 17:30 < hebasto> we could wait dongcarl finish his 2.24 testing 19:14 -!- luke-jr [~luke-jr@user/luke-jr] has joined #bitcoin-core-builds 20:48 -!- Josept [~Josept@42.116.182.208] has joined #bitcoin-core-builds 20:48 < Josept> GET BTC BY ANSWERING FUNNY QUIZZES.
