11:19 < sipa> You may want to look into "confidential transactions", which uses the concept of cryptographically blinded commitments to hide amounts.
11:20 < sipa> But the technology to make it work, and the domain where it operates, are very different from the tweaks used in taproot.
11:20 < sipa> the major complication is making sure that verifiers can still check that amounts in inputs and outputs balance out, so the commitment needs some homomorphic properties; turns out that the hardest thing here is making sure it doesn't overflow

11:26 < amovfx_> thanks for the insight, I've been doing some you tube videos on homomorphic encryption to better learn about schnoor. THe idea of E(a) + E(b) == E(a + b), I thought, wouldn't it be awesome if you could do other operations, like E(a) < E(b) = E(a < b).

11:28 < sipa> There do exist fully homomorphic encryption schemes which permit more than addition and scalar multplication, but just for balancing out inputs/outputs you don't need that (e.g. you can make the fee amount explicit, and then require equality)
