--- Log opened Mon Dec 13 00:00:59 2021 01:03 -!- jasan [~j@tunnel625336-pt.tunnel.tserv1.bud1.ipv6.he.net] has joined #c-lightning 01:07 < plant-boy[m]> If I wanted to move my c-lightning node to an other machine, is there a way to do that (and how)? Specifically, without changing my node key or closing my channels? 01:16 < cdecker[m]> Yes, it's a bit tricky, because you never want to start the old copy once you started the new one, but absolutely doable. 1) stop the old node, 2) rename the `.lightning` directory so you can't accidentally restart the old node (maybe verify that starting will create a new node), 3) copy the renamed `.lightning` to new host in the place where you'll be running from, and 4) point lightningd to the copied directory and start it. 01:16 < cdecker[m]> I'd also delete any copy remaining on the old host for safety (starting that one may lead to loss of funds). While you're at it, make a backup of `hsm_secret` files in the directory (those are static and safe to copy) 01:21 < plant-boy[m]> Ok, that actually sounds easy enough. I guess the risk of loss of funds is because the new node my progress the state of the channels, and so the old would have a updated view of those channels. Hence could be subject to penalty transactions, right? 01:21 < plant-boy[m]> my progress = might progress 01:22 < cdecker[m]> Exactly 👍 01:24 < plant-boy[m]> Thanks for the explanation! 01:27 < cdecker[m]> Anytime 02:03 -!- kexkey [~kexkey@static-198-54-132-89.cust.tzulo.com] has quit [Ping timeout: 256 seconds] 02:04 -!- kexkey [~kexkey@static-198-54-132-121.cust.tzulo.com] has joined #c-lightning 02:59 < jasan> Meeting tonight at 19:00 UTC (10 hours from now). 03:15 -!- Guest51 [~Guest51@2405:201:4017:28dd:8c4:38c0:57ec:13ea] has joined #c-lightning 03:17 -!- Guest51 [~Guest51@2405:201:4017:28dd:8c4:38c0:57ec:13ea] has left #c-lightning [] 04:19 -!- sr_gi [~sr_gi@static-120-137-229-77.ipcom.comunitel.net] has quit [Read error: Connection reset by peer] 04:20 -!- sr_gi [~sr_gi@static-120-137-229-77.ipcom.comunitel.net] has joined #c-lightning 04:27 -!- bitdex [~bitdex@gateway/tor-sasl/bitdex] has quit [Quit: = ""] 04:35 -!- jespada [~jespada@87.74.33.157] has quit [Ping timeout: 260 seconds] 04:37 -!- jespada [~jespada@87.74.33.157] has joined #c-lightning 05:21 -!- andrewtoth_ [~andrewtot@gateway/tor-sasl/andrewtoth] has joined #c-lightning 05:22 -!- andrewtoth [~andrewtot@gateway/tor-sasl/andrewtoth] has quit [Remote host closed the connection] 06:51 < michaelfolkson> Transcripts from previous meetings are here: https://github.com/ElementsProject/lightning/wiki/Biweekly-developer-calls 07:02 < vincenzopalazzo> michaelfolkson: thanks this is amazing 08:33 -!- jb55 [~jb55@S010660e327dca171.vc.shawcable.net] has joined #c-lightning 09:48 -!- andrewtoth_ [~andrewtot@gateway/tor-sasl/andrewtoth] has quit [Remote host closed the connection] 10:51 -!- rusty [~rusty@118.102.87.68] has joined #c-lightning 10:59 < rusty> Hi Everyone!
