--- Day changed Fri Nov 04 2016 01:29 -!- Elanthius [5e1f234e@gateway/web/freenode/ip.94.31.35.78] has joined #joinmarket 01:30 < Elanthius> Hey guys, I was just wondering if anyone knew what was going on with joinmarket lately. Seems like there are tons of tiny transactions with fees so high they're getting on towards 100% or more of the transaction size. Is someone doing some expensive testing? 02:03 < waxwing> Elanthius: i haven't seen 100% of the transaction size, but a few days ago i was tracking a very large set of transactions where the fees looked like 150k-200k sats/kB, around 3 times what was the 'standard' kind of fee. however there were also a fair number of normal fee transactions 02:04 < waxwing> i commented on it here at the time and asked if anyone else was seeing it 02:04 < waxwing> it was difficult to be sure, but i got the impression of someone manually altering so as to make their transactions fast (probably influenced by the previous week when there was a massive spike in fees and hence delays) 02:05 < waxwing> but it's conjecture. it could be almost anything in principle. 02:05 < waxwing> i read the code like 5 times that day to see if there was any possibility of a bug causing it, but i couldn't find any 02:09 < waxwing> interesting stat on my last 2 transactions: 102k sats/kB, 55k sats/kB ; estimatefee 1 is currently giving me 120k sats/kB, so they look like they're likely using joinmarket's estimator 02:09 < waxwing> well, not so interesting, but there it is 02:12 < waxwing> estimatefee 1 : 120k , estimatefee 2: 62k , another example why people shouldn't use tx_fees = 1 I think. well, unless they really don't care perhaps. 02:52 < Elanthius> Yeah, I thought it was all over last week but I did over 30 transactions yesterday under 1BTC. So the guy seems to be back. The worst one was 0.001BTC with a 44000 fee just from me. Who knows about the others in the join. 02:53 < Elanthius> I wonder if it could be people sweeping wallets or something but I don't know why anyone would be doing that so much 02:54 < Elanthius> Is there a simple way to get the sats/kB? 02:55 < Elanthius> I guess you need to pull that from the blockchain as I don't think I generally have access to the fees other makers are collecting? 02:59 < Elanthius> Oh wait, I'm talking about the cjfee not the txfee 03:43 -!- zmanian____ [sid113594@gateway/web/irccloud.com/x-abzjglpinuplmtdd] has quit [Ping timeout: 260 seconds] 03:43 -!- fronti [~fronti@irc.fh-biergarten.de] has quit [Ping timeout: 260 seconds] 03:44 -!- belcher [~belcher@unaffiliated/belcher] has quit [Ping timeout: 260 seconds] 03:44 -!- q-biq [q-biq@unaffiiliated/q-biq] has quit [Ping timeout: 260 seconds] 03:44 -!- emzy [~quassel@raspberry.emzy.de] has quit [Ping timeout: 260 seconds] 03:45 -!- emzy [~quassel@raspberry.emzy.de] has joined #joinmarket 03:47 -!- zmanian____ [sid113594@gateway/web/irccloud.com/x-hhiqaucswzfvpkcs] has joined #joinmarket 03:49 -!- q-biq [q-biq@2a00:1a28:1157:1f8::583a] has joined #joinmarket 03:49 -!- q-biq [q-biq@2a00:1a28:1157:1f8::583a] has quit [Changing host] 03:49 -!- q-biq [q-biq@unaffiiliated/q-biq] has joined #joinmarket 03:56 -!- rdymac [uid31665@gateway/web/irccloud.com/x-mmmccnbaarzybzhs] has joined #joinmarket 03:56 -!- belcher [~belcher@unaffiliated/belcher] has joined #joinmarket 04:40 -!- fronti [~fronti@irc.fh-biergarten.de] has joined #joinmarket 04:56 < waxwing> Elanthius: sorry was away, but yeah, we were talking about slightly different things. what you're talking about, ridiculously small sizes, is something we could perhaps try to educate about. people need to not be using joinmarket for less than ~ 5-10 million satoshis, i think, unless they're testing (but use testnet or regtest) and they don't care about losing a big chunk of it. 04:57 < waxwing> prompts me to ask again, has anyone used direct send yet? one use case is you have a small output left over, don't want to send it through a join. 05:09 < waxwing> also consider setting your minsize so you don't participate in those ultra-low value txs 05:23 -!- owowo [ovovo@gateway/vpn/mullvad/x-yavnffflcmltyatz] has joined #joinmarket 05:25 < Elanthius> I haven't used it but I think I will do so.
