python,sock5 proxy - tor daemon - vpn - remote tor nodes - irc hidden service, i guess? 08:53 < belcher> the lag must be intense 08:54 < waxwing> hmm but, it doesn't seem to be, really? 08:55 < waxwing> i think if anything it's dominated by the throttling preventing things moving too fast 08:55 < waxwing> what i *think* i noticed though, which is why i mention it - when the vpn is stopped for some reason it seems like i have to restart the tor service 08:55 < waxwing> but i may be misinterpreting exactly what's going on 08:55 < belcher> yes the lag isnt intense at all 08:56 < waxwing> well but i'm not on tor here :) 08:56 < waxwing> meant for bots 08:56 < belcher> ah 08:57 < waxwing> btw agora seems to have gone down today (cgan came back up). it's a pain for restarting. 08:58 < pigeons> it always shocks me how things like irc seem fine with that latency, then if you try to view a seemingly simple web page that basically displays text over a similar setup, it won't work at all 08:58 < belcher> im thinking the crowdfunded irc servers seems the best long term solution 09:01 < waxwing> pigeons, hmm yes, it seems that way doesn't it. curious. 09:01 < pigeons> modern web design 09:01 < waxwing> maybe. but sometimes even simple .onions are slow to load. not sure. 09:06 < waxwing> belcher, i guess it's more a need of 'crowdsource' than crowdfund, although the latter wouldn't hurt. 09:07 < pigeons> long-term i bet it would be useful for an http api you can submit transactions to 09:07 < belcher> i thought crowdfund over crowdsource because donating money is more efficient than donating skills/sysadmin time 09:08 < waxwing> i am faffing around with pytest-twisted at the moment to get some important tests back to a working state. just a little status report. 09:08 < belcher> cool 09:09 < belcher> i actually cloned the clientserver repos yesterday and ran it :) 09:09 < waxwing> will be in Paris starting tomorrow. 09:09 < waxwing> i believe adlai 's coming, anyone else 09:09 < waxwing> ? 09:09 < belcher> im coming to paris on friday 09:09 < waxwing> ah, great :) 09:09 < waxwing> another "joinmarket summit" 09:09 < waxwing> although i think paris is going to be almost as much of a circus as milan was, in terms of "crowds" :) 09:10 < belcher> the venue has space for 200 people apparently 09:10 < waxwing> i thought it'd be a boring academic conference or something when i signed up for it :) 09:11 < waxwing> belcher, did install.sh work ok? arubi's really souped it up. 09:11 < belcher> yep 09:11 < waxwing> did you run master? 09:11 < belcher> yes 09:11 < waxwing> right good, it's much better, only thing might be it takes time with openssl (although maybe not if you already have it?) 09:12 < belcher> i dont think i had it but install.sh got it 09:13 < belcher> one interesting thing, the joinmarket files are in places like ./jmclient/ and then they get copied to ./jmvenv/local/lib/python2.7/site-packages/jmclient/ 09:13 < waxwing> oh.copied? not egg-link? 09:13 < belcher> so if you edit files in ./jmclient/ you have to copy it to the other place too before it takes effect 09:14 < waxwing> hmm let me think. yes, i believe that's still the case now i remember. there is a "developer instructions" install thing somewhere, take a look at INSTALL.md 09:14 < waxwing> but, hmm, that's not in install.sh. thanks for reminding me. 09:14 < waxwing> basically you can do a pip install -e . in each of the four package directories to get links instead of copies. 09:15 < waxwing> users currently would only edit the scripts/ files like yield-generator.py so they'd be ok. 09:15 < waxwing> (well ofc in future we want to change that but meh) 09:16 < belcher> so you do that after install.sh ? 09:17 < belcher> would it work to add like cd jmclient && pip install -e to install.sh 09:17 < waxwing> hmm, after, it might be messy, i can't say 100%. you might have to either just delete the entries in site-packages or start afresh with new install. and yes, it was an oversight not to include dev option for install.sh 09:19 < waxwing> i should have done the whole pypi/pip thing (or at least tried to), but i encountered a big stumbling block with having separate packages all in one application/repo. i put that off for now (like way, way off). 09:24 -!- quitobro [47a71a6c@gateway/web/freenode/ip.71.167.26.108] has joined #joinmarket 09:25 < quitobro> hey guys, anyone upgrade to joinmarket-clientserver release recently? 09:25 < quitobro> i'm wondering whether to configure in joinmarket.cfg as daemon 0 or 1 09:25 < waxwing> quitobro, just leave it as default. 09:25 < quitobro> my understanding is that the daemon would be useful running the tumbler process in the background? 09:26 < waxwing> it's an advanced thing not very well developed for now; you *can* run the daemon separately, but as of now there's no real advantage. 09:26 < quitobro> previously i was just using screen to run multiple processes 09:26 < quitobro> ok default meaning no_daemon=1 09:26 < waxwing> leave it default and don't bother running joinmarketd.py 09:26 < quitobro> ? 09:26 < waxwing> whatever the default is ;) (i've forgotten) 09:26 < waxwing> shall i check? 09:26 < quitobro> i will paste that section of the config in here 09:27 < waxwing> 1 09:27 < waxwing> see the comment just above (1 means run the daemon within this process) 09:27 < quitobro> that's no_daemon=1 to be specific, right?
