10:02 < belcher> fyi: fee sniping is a proposed game theory failure that might happen in bitcoin when mining only depends on fees instead of inflation, what happens is a miner might choose to reorg out the last block in order to collect the tx fees with in, rather than build on top of the block... if this keeps happening then the blockchain would never move forward
10:03 < belcher> the nlocktime thing stops this because it means the tx can be mined into the _next_ block, not the previous one
10:03 < belcher> and its been added now rather than 30 years from now just in case someone codes something which breaks it
10:04 < belcher> to clarify: nlocktime can be used to ensure the tx can _only_ be mined into the _next_ block or ones after it, not any earlier existing block

10:11 < belcher> the fact that it exists is also nice for anonymity, because some anonymity protocols do timelock using nlocktime, and that means if you see a tx which sets nlocktime it could either be such a protocol or it might be a more mundane core/electrum tx

10:55 < waxwing> yeah i guess his intended application of the idea is even more specific: he's talking especially about how in games we tend to give too much credibility to simple formulas to work things out. so not just the fallacy of the measurable, which is probably more exactly what i was referring to belcher 
10:55 < waxwing> iirc his main example was : if a coin was flipped 10 times and always game up heads, the 'ludic fallacy' would be to assume that you have a 50% chance of heads next time.
