Feel free to open a PR, but personally i've always found this to be an area that concerns me (dealing with imported keys *at all* is already worrisome), so i've tended to want it to be as simple as possible.

07:40 < sangaman> waxwing, i tweaked the code and was able to import a segwit p2sh address into a native segwit wallet, it wasn't too big a change. i haven't tried spending it yet but it shows in the wallet-tool output fine. i'm aware of the risks of importing a key vs sweeping/transacting, mainly pertaining to recovery from seed, but one of the warnings when
