09:43 < fenn> wrldpc2: because animals take up a lot of room, and aren't very efficient at converting energy, and are generally harder to take care of
09:45 < fenn> mushrooms can perform much the same job as chickens, ecologically/nutritionally
09:46 < Utopiah> (related work http://www.esa.int/SPECIALS/Melissa/SEMU54V681F_0.html )
09:50 < fenn> http://thechickendiaries.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/01/Mushroons-in-the-meadow1.jpg
09:51 < fenn> that's the best google could do :(
09:51 < fenn> it's still a nice picture
09:53 < klafka> http://www.computer.org/portal/web/csdl/doi/10.1109/ISPA.2009.88 can anyone get this article?
09:55 < fenn> not me
09:59 < fenn> i _would_ like to have real data to back up my assertions, if anyone has an animals-vs-no-animals study handy
10:03 < klafka> fenn interesting idea
10:04 < klafka> i am eating a lot of quorn lately
10:04 < fenn> fake meat is probably worse than real meat
10:04 < klafka> try pubmed? + also i'd look up mushroom allergy rates
10:04 < klafka> fenn in what context?
10:04 < klafka> energy used?
10:04 < fenn> health
10:04 < klafka> why's that?
10:05 < fenn> its hard to digest and contains unbalanced levels of various chemicals
10:05 < Utopiah> there is ##nutrition btw
10:05 < fenn> seitan in particular destroys the lining of your small intestine
10:05 < klafka> [citation needed] ?
10:05 < klafka> interesting
10:05 < klafka> why? seitan is wheat gluten
10:05 < fenn> exactly
10:06 < fenn> go read about wheat gluten
10:06 < klafka> ok well quorn is made from fungus btw
10:06 < klafka> mycoprotein
10:06 < fenn> i've never had quorn
10:06 < fenn> (to me quorn means a DIY tool bit grinder)
10:06 < klafka> ah
10:07 < klafka> gah i do not have time to spend today reading about wheat gluten
10:07 < klafka> curse you
10:08 < fenn> well it's a long term thing, don't worry about i
10:08 < klafka> haha yeah i am not worried i'm gonna drop dead anytime soon from wheat gluten
10:08 < klafka> i know it's pretty immunoreactive
10:08 < klafka> you know what would be cool
10:08 < klafka> a way to self tune our bodies to our nutrients
10:09 < klafka> in a much more pro-active way than currently
10:09 < klafka> we could eat anything then!
10:09 < klafka> well
10:09 < klafka> a lot more things
10:09 < fenn> there are some interesting addiction effects from pseudo-opiate peptides found in gluten and milk
10:09 < klafka> hmm
10:10 < fenn> what do you mean "self tune"?
10:10 < fenn> like turn yourself into a werewolf?
10:10 < klafka> like tune your digestive system to be able to safely digest a wider range of nutrients
10:10 < klafka> sort of like "mr fusion" on the delorean if you will
10:11 < fenn> i think that's more a matter of downloading new genes, not "tuning"
10:11 < klafka> well it would require the integration of new genes, but also new regulatory logic
10:13 < klafka> is there a standard VIM short cut to comment a section of highlighted text?
10:14 < fenn> i dont think so
10:14 < fenn> you can do s/^/#/
10:14 < fenn> it sucks
10:14 < klafka> mm
10:14 < klafka> i bet i can make a macro for this
10:14 < klafka> or download someone elses customized vim

14:56 < fenn> http://www.lockss.org/lockss/Home
14:58 < fenn> your descriptions are too long
15:03 < fenn> We do, as a team, require that our rules about testing and other key processes be followed. In almost every case, that works just fine. If a developer doesn't follow the rules, we correct or remove them.
15:03 < fenn> The developer? Or the rules?
15:03 < fenn> i still can't figure out which was intended
15:12 < kanzure> either way sucks
15:12 < kanzure> "if a developer doesn't follow the rules," is a shitty reason to do anything
15:15 < fenn> i disagree
15:15 < fenn> rules are a way to coordinate people, cooperation
15:15 < fenn> since we can't literally read each other's minds, saying things explicitly is better than saying them implicitly
15:15 < kanzure> the developer should at least (1) read (follow) the rules, and then (2) maybe suggest better reals
15:15 < kanzure> *rules
15:16 < kanzure> but not being able to follow (like "Oh, i see") is bad news :(

20:36 < kanzure> hm now if only i knew what this data means
20:36 < kanzure> there's two devices going on here- the usb dongle with some sort of wireless going on (probably bluetooth?)
20:36 < kanzure> the user manual says that the dongle should have two lights on, one for power, and one that flashes once per second when it's not connected to the headset
20:37 < kanzure> then, once connected to the headset, there's either a third light (?) that turns on and flashes rapidly (indicating data)
20:37 < kanzure> or the second light (that flashed once per second) should be flashing randomly
20:37 < kanzure> i haven't seen a third light
20:37 < kanzure> but the second light has gone solid and goes back to 1 flash/sec when i turn off the headset
20:37 < kanzure> and if i look closely, it's not an entirely stable light.. maybe it's flashing too fast for the human eye to see?
20:41 < kanzure> oh
20:41 < kanzure> how stupid. it blinks when the buffer is read from on the dongle
20:55 < kanzure> well. hm
