wouldn't publish methods on how they got the chatlogs or PMs or whatever, but the only actual evidence I see cited is that an 'internet domain' that he paid for with a paypal linked to his public email was used for hax 20:12 <@kanzure> which seems suspicious to me if he was actually using tor 20:13 < yashgaroth> a literally unbelievably stupid move 20:13 < yashgaroth> not to mention 'changed his nickname on IRC', like that dude who kept coming in last week with the same IP and bugging paperbot 20:15 <@kanzure> yeah, nsh isn't known for doing stupid things like that 20:24 <@kanzure> also i have found a fairly accurate video that describes how transcranial ultrasound works: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZQjVN13dI10 20:28 < yashgaroth> apparently 'microconcussion' is not a word 21:31 -!- though right :-) 23:31 < dingo> hehe 23:31 < nmz787> you're rght it was PKD's 23:31 < nmz787> just finished Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? 23:33 < dingo> oh thats a great book 23:33 < nmz787> it seemed like an oversight that they had hovercars, but no cell phones. 23:33 < dingo> hehe 23:33 < dingo> it was written in maybe 1980 or so 23:34 < dingo> i think what i really liked about that book is the personality 23:34 < nmz787> 1968 first published 23:34 < nmz787> but still radio had been around since the turn of the century 23:34 < dingo> i dont read a lot of PKD, maybe only 4 or 5 of his books all the way through 23:34 < dingo> 2 of them i couldn't even finish 23:34 < dingo> they were just too abstract 23:34 < nmz787> hmm 23:34 < nmz787> this has been my only 23:34 < dingo> but that one really sold me 23:34 < nmz787> having to read Oryx and Crake now 23:35 < nmz787> also starts with bio weirdness 23:35 < dingo> had to google that one, never heard of it 23:36 -!- oblique [~oblique@unaffiliated/oblique] has quit [Quit: leaving] 23:36 < dingo> hmm i may have read at least one of her other works though 23:36 < dingo> i recently went through some 1980's sci fi collections 23:37 < nmz787> i'm in a scifi lit class now 23:37 < dingo> usually i read 1970's and older 23:37 < nmz787> fit the requirement for a class i need to get my degree 23:37 < dingo> wow thats one class i wouldn't drop out of hehe 23:37 < nmz787> lol 23:37 < nmz787> we last read brave new world 23:37 < nmz787> which also lacked cell phones 23:38 < dingo> bah i didn't like that one at all 23:38 < nmz787> it was only dystopian because of the culture, I didn't really see any blame in their tech 23:38 < dingo> i dunno why, maybe i was too young, like 16, when i read it 23:39 < dingo> i do like dystopian future books 23:39 < dingo> or movies for that matter 23:39 < dingo> it seemed pop-culture-centric 23:40 < dingo> never was a fan of that, in the future or the present 23:40 < nmz787> hah, that's what made it dystopian for me! 23:41 < dingo> sometimes i read cliff notes or some such afterwards and go wow maybe it -was- a good book hahaha 23:41 < dingo> the internet has really spoiled good reading 23:41 < nmz787> lol 23:41 < nmz787> i have the audio books for 3 of 4 req readings for this class 23:41 < dingo> i like dune by frank herbert and foundation series by asimov for their length 23:41 < nmz787> first two were highly abridged though, so glad i read along 23:41 < dingo> i worked at a factory when i read those books 23:42 < dingo> really nice to have hundreds of pages of good story to daydream about during the day 23:42 < nmz787> haven't read them, closest I've come to dune is watching Beetlejuice (there was a scene with sand worms, I think referencing dune) 23:42 < dingo> ha never thought of that, but yeah 23:42 < dingo> dune is very spiritual, almost muslim-inspired 23:42 < nmz787> hmm 23:42 < dingo> very weird stuff, but great storyline 23:43 < dingo> political stuff worth paying attention to 23:43 < dingo> foundation series has this great premise, that there is some mathematical way of predicting future possibilities, some new kind of scientific math or some such 23:43 < dingo> i forget what they called it, psychometrics or something 23:44 < dingo> there becomes some hidden race of ppl who just carefully adjust the timeline now and then for good outcomes 23:44 < dingo> then part-way through the series, a 'mutant' is born, something unpredictable, fucks it all up 23:44 < dingo> anyway its long as hell lol 23:45 < dingo> when i first saw it i was like i'll never finish this 23:45 < dingo> but i couldn't put it down for some reason 23:45 < nmz787> hah, the kind of book you read walking down the street despite just running into a telephone pole because of not watching out. 23:46 < nmz787> i was reading my phone walking the other day and freaked myself out, thinking i was about to walk into a pole 23:46 < nmz787> turned out to be air. 23:46 < dingo> ha 23:46 < dingo> if you can find the hugo award winners and nebula award winners volumes you won't be dissapointed 23:47 < dingo> sometimes i think they awarded some folk just for writing very very very strange stories, that aren't very good, but just because they wanted to encourage 'pushing the boundires', like harlan ellison 23:47 < dingo> but 90% of them are great, and they're short novels/short stories, so they're usually finishable within a night 23:47 < dingo> they also had awards for full-length novels, but you won't find them in a single book 23:48 < dingo> i used to have all of analog science fiction & science fact, 1969-1988, i recently donated that all away to the library, i miss them even though i read them all, they were monthly subscription as to whether I like reading fiction anymore 23:49 < dingo> its just nice to have something interesting to excersize your thoughts with 23:49 < dingo> oh i was completely against reading ficiton for a long time 23:50 < dingo> i read only strictly scientific or technical books for a long time 23:50 < nmz787> watching it I'm more OK with because I can zone out and do other computer stuff if I get bored... or if my girlfriend is wanting to watch something more than I do 23:50 < dingo> science fiction is the only fiction i read hehe 23:50 < dingo> i think its healthy 23:51 < nmz787> there was someone in another IRC room that was writing some scifi, gave them some links to real science stuff that they were trying to create in their story 23:51 < dingo> its given me new, interesting perspectives on things in this world, its helped matured my morals, ego, thoughts, etc. 23:51 < nmz787> i guess the links I gave them didn't fit exactly their creature, but they were pretty good for realistic/plausible evolutionary starting points 23:52 < nmz787> thinking about morals is an interesting way I've also looked at it 23:53 < dingo> the best science fiction stretches concepts found in this world, twists them around in some alternate reality, but makes you realize something new and different about this seemingly normal world we're in 23:54 < dingo> simple things like racism among creatures, you can understand it much more clearly when neither are human 23:54 < nmz787> yeah --- Log closed Fri Nov 01 00:00:11 2013
