He didn't want his head chopped off. He setup his paperwork with Alcor to ensure this. Then they went and did it anyway.

But then they gave the runaround to Kurt and treated him as an adversary, outright lying and covering up what happened, or so Kurt's court filings claim. Now he's on a personal quest to shut down Alcor as a result.

The Trust owns the actual facility and their expenses are meager. ALEF pays rent to the Trust, which alone more than covers the Trust's operating expenses.
