Lawrence Pilgeram was *very clear* that he wanted whole-body preservation no matter the state of decay. He didn't want his head chopped off. He setup his paperwork with Alcor to ensure this. Then they went and did it anyway. 16:42 < fenn> yes, that's very bad 16:43 < fenn> however, cremating the head is also very obviously not the correct thing to do in this situation 16:44 < maaku> The right thing to do is whatever Mr. Pilgeram wanted... his son Kurt says it was "whole-body or nothing." I wonder what documented evidence he has to that effect. 16:46 < maaku> But it doesn't seem to matter at this point. Alcor's 1st fuckup was to violate Lawrence Pilgeram's wishes. But then they gave the runaround to Kurt and treated him as an adversary, outright lying and covering up what happened, or so Kurt's court filings claim. Now he's on a personal quest to shut down Alcor as a result. 16:47 < maaku> If they'd just said "oops, our bad. let's revise our internal procedures and raise the price of whole-body cryo to make sure that this never happens again" there wouldn't have been a court case. 16:48 < maaku> But now Alcor is staking the future of all patients under its care on a court case where they are very clearly in the wrong in some aspects... this does not bode well. 16:50 < maaku> IMHO they should enter arbitration with the intent of giving up the head based on unique circumstances, without setting precident. To take this to jury trial is madness. 16:55 < fenn> what happens to the cryo patients if alcor goes out of business? 17:02 -!- yashgaroth [~ffffffff@2606:6000:ca84:b300:2c8d:348:7f2:2184] has joined ##hplusroadmap 17:08 < fenn> "As of 1997, Alcor is now 2 separate legal entities, the Alcor Life Extension Foundation (ALEF) and the Alcor Patient Care Trust.
