18:10 < nmz787> yeah lining it with some firebrick would be good, but also make it much heavier (which isn't really a terrible thing I guess... I could always mount it on a wagon or casters or wheels

18:16 < fenn> there's this awful stuff called fiberfrax with is a sort of crustified ceramic wool. it's sturdy enough to use as furnace lining but also low thermal mass so you don't waste a lot of energy heating up the furnace itself
18:17 < fenn> so you would have, from the center, fiberfrax, ceramic wool, rockwool, steel barrel
18:18 < fenn> and presumably some kind of heat exchanger in the chimney
18:19 < fenn> or lightweight insulating firebrick. since you're not throwing logs on it, the furnace liner doesn't need to be especially durable
18:23 < fenn> the cheap option would be perlite with a clay + grog + dung liner, but perlite shrinks over time with heat and so you'd have to keep repairing the liner

I confirmed they canceled and bought a local product instead. 20 days later they charge my card and ship. Phone support says they never sent the email but I have it DKIM signed and gave print outs to my bank.

18:33 < fenn> but like, once you have a design you're happy with, that's like infinity casters
