Hi,

I have an idea for a gamified bitcoin mining app that I'd like to partner
with someone on that is very good with cryptography and knows the bitcoin
code base well. I have received interest in this from some, but I'm looking
for the ideal candidate to work with. If this is of interest, please email
me at nharan81@gmail•com.

Thanks,
Neil

Don't solicit interest in advance of content, please. Share your idea
first and if people find it cogent and interesting they will volunteer
interest/assistance.

My apologies Lauri!

Here is the idea:

I want to build a massive rock paper scissors tournament, the largest the
world has ever seen and one that no one can stop. I imagine re-purposing
bitcoin-qt to do this.

Imagine a tournament like the World Series of Poker, but for RPS.

Each person plays a best of 5 tournament each round. The players are
randomly matched against each other. The number of rounds would effectively
be the depth of a binary tree...

So if a million people play in this tournament, you would need to win 20
rounds to win the tournament and the cash prize.

Now, I will supply this cash prize and I have media connections to get
coverage for this. I fully believe I could get millions playing in this.

Thanks,
Neil

This is quite off topic, so please consider another channel. As long as you
have my attention, I previously started a cryptographically secure RPS game
as a proof of concept.

https://github.com/thofmann/rock-paper-scissors-protocol-secure/blob/master/readme.md

Unfortunately, I do not have the time to develop it at the moment, but you
can message me off the channel if you would like to discuss things further.

Thank you,
Trevin Hofmann

> This is quite off topic,

I see a number of people claiming they know what should be posted to
this list but those claims appear to be without merit.

The list states the subject is "Development discussion list for Bitcoin
protocol and its implementation." That is a pretty broad description
that appears to encompass a number of topics that are claimed to be
"off-topic" by people who seem to be making up their own rules. One guy
even contacts people and threatens to have the list moderated if you
don't follow his rules even though it appears he has no such authority
and there are no official rules he can reference.

Maybe there should be a more precise description if the discussion is to
be limited in some way beyond the "official" description.

This is off-topic for this list.

You like to go around pretending you are in charge and telling people
what to do. You have no such authority and your time is probably better
spent reviewing your company's Bitcoin handling and security procedures
instead of trying to bully people all the time.

Making statements about a developer's personal character is also off-topic for this list.

If that were true then probably 20-30% of the posting here would be
off-topic. lol.

Yes - that is the reason why a discussion list is being created, as an
outlet for off-topic discussions. The consensus of the developers that
created this bitcoin-dev list a short time ago is of being turned off due
to the off-topic noise, impacting productivity.

Since 2011 and bitcoin-development, the list was always intended to focus
on the highly technical bits of the core software, and avoid wandering into
never-ending philosophical discussions. Example:

What happened years ago is not really relevant as Bitcoin has changed
and the stakeholders have expanded. What is relevant is the actual
description. Whatever you want to discuss it should be clearly
described when people sign up.

This email's quote excised the "short time ago" bit, which is the other 1/2
of the context.
