03:32 < TMA> kanzure: please do not add height to humans; alternatively arrange rebuilding of essentially all infrastructure to accomodate increased height beforehand. the current world is painful enough for the above average high (hard to obtain clothes, insufficient room for legs in transportation devices, ceilings low enough to warrant extreme caution walking beneath, door frames necesitating bowing, ...)
03:35 < maaku> if anything, I'd prefer to shrink humans to <1ft
03:35 < maaku> lots of advantages to getting smaller
03:35 < maaku> (the minor disadvantage of cats becoming the dominant preditory species)
03:38 < maaku> If mites can have fully articulated microscopic bodies, surely there is room for shrinkage in humans
03:47 < bluebear_> maaku: not sure if you had not have to reorganize the brain; I think smurf size would be a good compromise

05:47 < JayDugger> maaku, bluebear, if you haven't already read Hanson's 1994 "If Uploads Come First," then I recommend its section "Upload Consequences" which has a part relevant to your discussion starting with "Fast uploads who want physical bodies that can keep up with their faster brains might use proportionally smaller bodies."

05:48 < bluebear_> JayDugger: will read, thanks :-)
05:49 < JayDugger> You're welcome. Mostly SF lookups from me, but the occasional non-fiction one will appear from time to time.

10:19 < nmz787> I also am unsure if being taller would be any better... basal metabolism will go up, and what's the return-on-investment... when is the extra height going to significantly make up for all that lost energy (i.e. increase fitness)?

13:23 < TMA> kanzure: I am already above average (about 69/32 yd or 19/194 chains) high and I am facing the things I mentioned already; if you still insist, consider adding additional joints to the extremities

16:18 < nmz787> yeah another set of hands would be good... I guess that would mean arms too... but a statically located hand might not be terrible... less to think about moving and keeping track of, but still would be able to have very good dexterity and act to hold things. I'm not sure where optimal placement would be though
16:18 < nmz787> maybe where most things have wings sprouting?
16:19 < nmz787> upper-back hands don't seem terrible... they could hold a camera, or scissors... or if you had two symetrically placed there (i.e. like wings) one could hold scissors, the other could hold the camera... and you could cut your own hair
16:19 < nmz787> or a mirror, whatevrs

17:44 < fenn> "unlicensed money-transmitting business related to the Silk Road marketplace"
17:44 < fenn> that's quite a bit different than just buying and selling bitcoins
17:47 < kanzure> "related" because users who bought and sold bitcoin were also users of ... eh nevermind.
